The benefit of pausing and reflecting

It’s all too easy when we’re in business for ourselves to keep going relentlessly week after week.

I’m lucky that because my business revolves around school terms, those are my natural places to stop and take a breath.

None more so than the summer holidays of course.

I’ve just written my review of the last year. Noticed the good things and the not so good, and thought about what’s next.

And I shared a post on LinkedIn thanking a whole load of people – from those who run communities or events I rely on for my networking, support and encouragement, to my freelance friends old and new.

In reflecting I’ve noted a few pivotal events in the last 10 months. One not so good bit, that taught me a lot. And two surprising ones, both of which brought out more of the real me, and are helping me shape where I want to take my business from September onwards.

So as I sit here with this view (see image at the bottom of this post), I’m feeling very grateful for the communities of people I have around me. And I’m feeling like things are going in the right direction.

I’m going to do more reflecting over the summer as the activity on social media slows down, and I’ll be focusing on working with the clients I already have, and continuing with small projects I’ve already started. I may take steps to test a couple of ideas.

But nothing big and new until September – which gives me a chance to pause and check in with myself to make sure the ideas I’ve had still make sense.

And then back to it with enthusiasm with the new school term.

Are you taking time out this summer to pause and reflect?
