My philosophy – an update on my journey

I realised recently that I started telling my story with this blog, but that I haven’t added an update recently. That’s probably because I’ve been so immersed in what I’m doing that I haven’t had the chance. And often I don’t like to share a bit of the story while it’s still in progress.

In the last few months I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and figuring stuff out, getting myself back on track after a frustrating 6 months in my business.

Coaching and untangling

I have recently been learning coaching skills, and enjoyed the topics we covered alongside that such as strengths, values and positive psychology.

I can’t believe it took me so many years to realise that coaching would be a good skill and subject for me to learn. I’ve been reading personal development books for years, and it’s the topic I am always drawn to.

But it fits nicely alongside the practical process of untangling ideas and marketing – planning, mapping out where businesses are, and sometimes getting involved in project management or writing content as well.

And with the overall theme of rediscovering creativity and joy in business, it also works well with my creative writing workshop and talking about creative inspiration and the creative process.

Phases of discovery

To get to this point, I’ve been through phases and added many pieces and layers to my understanding of myself and how I work best. Over 10 years of that so far.

First there was noticing the world around me, becoming aware of my surroundings when I was so busy with a long commute. I learned a lot about me – understanding my skills and talents, and how I work best.

And I experimented with and explored all sorts of ideas and ways of working – and still do this. I figured out why I do what I do, and what’s important to me now and in where I want to take my business.

I found online communities and networking groups, looking for the people I want to spend time with online and in person. And my current priority is working on my visibility – figuring out how to be visible in a way that works for me and how to get clients from that. Not by doing what other people say I should be doing.

Themes and topics

This year I realised that the theme linking my interests together was joy – which includes creativity and includes having and playing with new ideas. And more recently I’ve added freedom to that list.

And while doing the coaching course I’ve clarified my values – curiosity, creativity and connection – and how they link to having freedom and to feeling alive, which are both important to me.

My clients and how this all fits together

When I work with clients, I help them see where they are now – the why, who, what, where, when and how – and where they want to make changes in their business to give them more creativity and joy. And that’s all based on where my own journey has taken me.

Then I help them to make those changes – whether through guiding and coaching, or planning, or practical help.

My story continues

I’m in the progress of figuring out which bits of this story and these themes and topics are going to be the most interesting to share. And how to share them – some will be in the form of new blog posts or social media posts, and some will be videos.

So I will write more on this again soon. It’s ever evolving, with more and more layers being added, more footsteps forwards.
